Professional Development Initiative: J. William Fulbright Scholarship

As a part of our new Professional Development Initiative, every other month, the Wentcher Foundation will host virtual sessions in which alumni speak to current students, addressing various topics to support scholars to post-graduation success.

On July 27th,  The Wentcher Foundation will be hosting a virtual panel discussing the prestigious J. William Fulbright Scholarship. Wentcher Scholars will learn about the different types of Fulbright Awards, break down the components of the application, and receive advice regarding the scholarship from Wentcher Alumni and Fulbright recipients Gio Santiago and Nia Harris.

Gio Santiago is an Austin native and alumnus of Northside College Prep. Gio graduated from Brown University in 2019 with a degree in History and Ethnic Studies. He received a Fulbright Scholarship in 2019 as an English Teaching Assistant for Spain. Currently, Gio works for the music media company Pitchfork in New York City as the Executive Editorial Assistant.

Nia Harris is a Morgan Park native and alumnus of Whitney Young. Nia graduated from NYU in 2020 with a degree in Africana Studies, and received a Fulbright Scholarship in 2020 as a Kenya English Teaching Assistant. Nia currently works for the Wentcher Foundation as the Program Associate as she waits to begin her Fulbright Scholarship.

We are so proud of both Nia and Gio, and grateful to them for volunteering their time!
