“The personal touch of the Wentcher Foundation has been an enormous motivator and self-esteem booster for me throughout college.”

Joe first attended Oakton Community College where he received the Oakton Wentcher Scholarship and will be completing his bachelor’s degree this spring at Illinois State University with support from the Oakton Wentcher Transfer Scholarship. He is very active on campus at ISU; he works as a Peer Advisor, and is a member of Phi Sigma Phi and the National Society of Leadership and Success. His bold dreams include a career in sports marketing.

“School has always been my safe haven. When I realized I was able to continue that because of the Wentcher Foundation, it was life changing.”

Jocelyn is a fellow at the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. She served as the University of Illinois’ Student Government Diversity and Inclusion chair, and ran a voter outreach and solidarity campaign for the 2020 election. She’s currently studying public policy with a focus on education and community. Among Jocelyn’s bold dreams, she hopes to one day become a judge.

Czar has extended his love of computer science and gaming to his studies at Cornell University. He gives back to young students through the Compass program providing computer science after school enrichment at local elementary schools

Wentcher Scholars come from every Chicago neighborhood and suburban high schools connected to Oakton Community College. We are intentional about increasing educational equity for high character, high-achieving students of every race and ethnicity from selective enrollment, charter, vocational, career academy, military and neighborhood public high schools. Scholars attend universities and colleges throughout the country, as well as study abroad. Our scholars are making an impact on their campuses, in their neighborhoods and in the communities where they reside following college graduation.

The Wentcher Foundation’s programs offer support to scholars to help them thrive through college.

In addition to the financial award, the Wentcher Foundation offers hands-on guidance and resources for social, emotional and academic support, such as digital tutoring and access to online personal support.

The Wentcher Foundation has focused career development efforts in assisting its scholars to secure paid summer internship opportunities in the Chicago area to build up both our scholars’ skills and experience, but also to ensure their diverse talent is reinvested in their home community.
