FAQ’s
It depends. Wentcher awards up to $10,000 per year, depending on your verified unmet financial need. Some students receive less due to receiving significant institutional, federal, state, and other private scholarships.
We use this formula:
Cost of Attendance (COA)
– All grants and scholarships received
= Wentcher Maximum Unmet Need
Do not include loans, work-study, or expected family contributions in the calculation. Wentcher may cover up to $5,000 per semester. For colleges on the quarter system, the award may be split into thirds for fall, winter, and spring.
Wentcher only funds what you need. If you only need $6,500, the rest of the award will not be used and does not roll over to future terms. You will not receive the difference as a refund.
No. Each semester is reviewed independently. Unused funds from one term do not transfer or roll over to future semesters.
No. Wentcher is term-specific and disbursed each semester:
- Up to $5,000 in Fall
- Up to $5,000 in Spring
- Quarter system awards are split evenly across three terms
Wentcher does not allow:
- Prepayment
- Transferring funds between semesters

Yes, if you follow these steps:
- Contact us before transferring
- Submit a new financial aid award letter and Award Agreement
- Your new school must verify your unmet financial need
Wentcher will continue funding only if:
- Your new college is an eligible, accredited 4-year institution
- You meet eligibility and financial need requirements
Notify us right away. We may pause your scholarship and resume it when you return, as long as you remain eligible.
No. Wentcher only funds up to 4 years (8 semesters). You’re responsible for any remaining time beyond that.
No. If you graduate in December or complete your degree early, your scholarship ends that semester. You are not eligible for spring funding once your degree has been conferred.
Wentcher requires full-time enrollment (typically 12+ credit hours). If you drop below full-time, withdraw from school, or fall behind in academic progress, your scholarship may be reduced, paused, or suspended. Always reach out to us—we may be able to support you if you’re facing personal, academic, or health challenges.
Not right away. Provisional status means your GPA or academic progress needs improvement. You will work with Wentcher staff to set a GPA or credit benchmark. If you meet it by the end of the term, you’ll return to good standing. If you remain on Provisional for two consecutive semesters, your scholarship will be suspended.
Yes—only if it’s included in your official COA. If it is not listed by your college, we cannot cover it.
Not at this time. We recommend contacting your college’s financial aid or student support office if you’re facing a financial emergency.
No. Wentcher only supports credit-bearing, undergraduate courses. Test prep, certification exams, and graduate school expenses are not covered.
It depends. Start with your award letter and calculate:
COA – Grants & Scholarships (not loans) = Unmet Need
Wentcher may cover up to $10,000 of that need. If there’s still a gap, you can decide whether to:
- Use savings
- Get a part-time job
- Borrow a federal subsidized loan
Remember: Wentcher does not count loans (including Parent PLUS loans) when calculating unmet need. We strongly encourage you to borrow only what you truly need.
